I am beginning to study electronics which I wish I had done years ago.
I know when a radio is wired up reverse polarity it takes out the Protection Diode, but sometimes radio's do not have them because a tech or the person removed them so you have to be careful.
What components typically get damaged when they put in too big a fuse? Things like PCB Trace Board, etc.
Certainly the larger the fuse the more damage.
Thank you for any assistance.

Usually any component that's powered directly off the B+ line without any current limiting also like you mentioned the PCB trace.
As an example in a cb the Audio IC, RF driver and Final Amplifier transistors are power directly from the voltage source.
Most of the other components get their voltage through current limiting resistors or voltage regulators which would give them some protection and would less likely cause them to be damaged.
