Cobra 25 ltd
I have a cobra 25 ltd that I was messing around with until I get my other radio in and It is acting funny. You can be driving up the road listening to a conversation and the radio will be working like a New one. Then at any time it will randomly quit receiving. The squelch will go away it will not transmit or anything. Then it will randomly start working great again. Any ideas?

Have you had any mic problems with this radio in the past? Try plugging in a different mic and see if that helps anything.

Try a different mic sounds like a bad ground wire on the mics plug.check the inside of the radio as well look for cracked solder or lose wires

Hi Lineman,
If you take the radio cover off and gently press on the board you most likely will find that the radio has a bad solder connection. Looking at the solder side of the board and using a non-metallic object, such as the eraser end of a pencil, gently press on the board near the waxed area on the right front portion of the board. This the PLL/VCO circuit. The radio should cut in and out as you gently press on the board. You may also try freeze spray.
Since, both Tx and Rx cut out the problem has to be a circuit common to both functions. This a common problem with many radios. The circuit is a high impedance circuit, so it doesn't take much for it to act up if the board was not prepped properly from the factory. Looking at the component side of the board it is the area covered with bee's wax. The problem with many of the newer radios is quality control. The Chinese do not prep the board very well before running it through the solder bath. If it is an older radio it may be because of years of the board expanding and contracting due to temperature.
The components may be making a mechanical connection, but not a good electrical connection. I find that a third of the radios I have repaired are due to a bad solder connection.
Good luck
