Modulation LED For Tranformer Modulated Rigs

Post by 577-Jersey »

Hey guys,,
Just wanted to share a cool simple mod for anybody that wants to add a modulation LED on a Cobra/Uniden style transformer modulated radio.

Parts needed- 1x100 ohm 1/2 watt resistor,1xLED.
Find where your positive speaker wire is soldered to the board and on the trace side solder the resistor to that trace,,then solder the anode(positive)side of LED to the resistor, then run the cathode(negative)side of LED to board DC ground,,all in a series.

You can run the LED to the front panel and utilize the TX RX indicator spot for this mod or put it wherever you want,,most of the time I will use a dual color LED in the meter after removing the TX RX indicator so my meter with light from green to red under RX TX Mode or whatever color you choose,,that way you don't loose a function,,but gain one.

Remember to use heat shrink and run your wires through the top side in the main harness,,that way it looks all tidy and everybody will be happy.

Thanks 577-Jersey for the mod, I have seen them installed next to the meter light and in red led, as you modulation the meter glows red, makes an excellent indicator for if you are squealing or over modulating.
