Can I have sideband installed in my old 25 cobra ltd? If yes what would be a rough estimate of cost?....Thanks in advance.

Sideband as in USB & LSB no. There are kits out there to get you additional channels. 40 channels below 1 and 40 channels above 40. AM only.

You will need to buy another radio.

Sure, it's possible - but it would require a complete rework of the radio's circuitry making the purchase of a new radio that already has SSB the cheaper solution.

There used to be devices that did that converting of AM to SSB. They were typically huge compared to the transmitter and cost a bundle. It's just cheaper to do the whole thing with a transmitter designed to do that. Which usually means you buy/get another radio. So, can it be done? Yep, sure can. Is it very practical? Nope, not unless you just enjoy doing that sort of thingy.

The cost would probably be 2 to 3 times more than the cost of a new Galaxy 949 or 959 and it wouldn't be half the radio they are.

I agree, I bought a refurbished Galaxy 959 for $89.00 and had the Tallman tune up put to it. Radio sounded good to start with but after the Tallman did his thing to it, it was twice the radio. Schottkey diodes, finals changed out and modulation change make it one rocking radio.

go to greiglist get a ssb unit cheap and have it mod out it will be way less headaches and way cheaper than a conversion if this does exist.
