Hi wb2izz,
Here is the alignment procedure for your radio;

Like I said in your other post, I would leave them alone unless the radio is way out of alignment then it should be done by someone with the equipment to do so. Increasing the RF power output is only going to shorten the life finals and the small increase will not be seen by the receiving radio. You never said what antenna you are using but an improvement in that and coax would show up better on the receiving station.

The N2's aren't bad on AM but they aren't the loudest radio's for AM. The N2 was made for SSB more or less. That's where they excel. Straight out of the box it will do 200 plus on SSB. Tweaking it to get an extra 10-25 watts will do exactly what MDYoungblood said, shorten the life of the finals. The noticeable gain you'll get out of those extra watts isn't worth it. Leave it alone, they will talk anywhere in the world right out of the box with a good antenna and coax. When I use mine on AM for going down the highway I leave my power setting at minimum and have no issues being heard.
mine came good to go right out of the box . dead on frequency and sounded good . I will not tinker with it or pay someone to fool with an awesome new radio.
does yours sound bad ? and is it off freq?
