400MAX Coax

#362733

Post by Buzzweiser »

I've had my base antenna up now for about 7 months and while it works really well especially for the height it's at when I put it up I used an older strand of RG-213 I had from days gone by. The coax looked good and I did put new ends on it and really have had no problem with it but before winter arrives I plan on putting up a new copy stick and putting new coax on it. Has anyone else used the 400MAX? I bought a short run of it for the mobile to try it out and I am pleased with it other than it's really stiff compared to the RG-213. Of course it wasn't intended of being mobile use coax I don't believe. There's not a big difference in loss between the two, 1db for 213@ 100ft vs. .8 for the 400. Velocity factor is 66 on 213 and 88 on the 400. What my thinking is on the 400 is the double shielding and 10awg center vs. single shielding and a 12awg on the 213. Price difference is only .03 per foot more for the 400. I ran a lot of LMR400 back in the day as well as RG-213 and really never notice a difference in the two but I don't think the old LMR400 was double shielded. Anyone care to share an opinion?

Hello,
the LMR400 will do much better then the 213. [Please login or register to view this link] has really good cable. I use their LMR400 for my base but use the LMR240 on my mobile, I could use their LMR240 on my base with no issues!!!!!!!!! They even make a flex LMR400! RG8X does not have as huge center conductor as LMR240. LMR is really the way to go if under 1000 watts.

The JefaTech 400 comes highly recommended, hard to beat the price too.

I would get the better stuff that only cost $0.03/foot more. You will never notice the difference in performance between the two, but its hard to beat that upgrade price...

I would go with the 400 also but you have to watch out for the Chinese brands, they are clones to the real 400 and the specs are greatly exaggerated.

Thanks for all the replies. I decided on the 400MAX. US made, 100% copper center conductor, dual shield with the outer shield at 96% tinned copper over 100% Foil. Not as much as a bargain as the Jefa but it's got the 100% copper center which I prefer. Looks like CommScope LMR400. Might be with the sellers name on it. Would handle the old Henry if I ever decided to unpack it. My biggest concern here is of course the neighbors. Haven't had a complaint yet, only from the mother-in-law when she stays over cause I do wipe out the old analog tv......lol. The street north of me is a new HOA section too so don't want to make anyone mad there either, I'll probably scare them with the beams next year. Also just because of the age of the old stuff don't really trust it. Got good equipment why chance tearing it up with old coax.

Thanks Again!!

I checked out their price and "Whoa", can't beat that with a stick and they are in Maryland too. Might have to take a ride and get a test sample.
