Cobra 2000 external speaker

#367740

Post by LadyMermaid »

I have the external speakers for my Cobra 2000s

Besides the above, I like to run a speaker that uses the loose wires or loose stranded speaker wire -- I like a very long speaker wire so I can have a speaker in my bedroom.

How can I do this?

I still want to be able to plug in the speaker into the radio.

I have a speaker which I can plug into the wall and probably make it work with the Cobra but I like to do something different, speaker I do not have to plug into the electrical outlet :fish: .

You might be able to find a splitter, odds are your going to have to make one. One male plug, two females should be able to that stuff at ratshack. Ought to be pretty common plugs.

Only one end would need a plug.

The other would be stranded speaker wire.

Your 2000 is one of the easiest to add an extention speaker too, all you need is a length of speaker wire to reach where you want the speaker and a male 3.5mm mono plug. The wire has a red stripe on one lead, that is soldered to the tip connection on the plug and the other to the sleeve. Plug it into the back speaker jack marked #2 and the switch on the front to #2, should work great.

Good morning LadyMermaid

Unsolder the wire from the speaker and use what ever wire will reach the room you want to go to. This way you won't have to splice any wire. Then simply solder a standard 1/8th phono plug to the end going into the radio. You may use the one that is currently on the existing wire. Don't worry about polarity because the plug is mono. Polarity is only a concern when using stereo.

Respectfully,

I will find someone to help me with this.

I had this same prob when going from my laptop to a specific speaker wiring -- found the plug I needed

I will investigate this further -- I am not going to solder anything -- lol

I have not picked up a solder iron in over 25 years

If you have soldered before you could do it again, nothing to it, if you don't have an iron RS has a good starter kit with everything you need, wish the sponsors did, wouldn't hurt to check.
