Hmmm....about that patchcord I used for my meter....
Hi Folks;
I posted yesterday about how I went through a bunch of stuff stored in my "junk room" and found my old meter and a patch cord.
Well; before I decided to use the patch cord, I looked at it and it had no weathering on the outside, no corrosion on the connectors;....it looked pretty good. So I hooked it up and I am using it.
I just realized it's so old, it says.......
Wait for it...................
"TANDY!!!!"
When is the last time you saw that name on anything?

I don't know how old that stuff is. I do have some mini 8 that says Radio Shack rg8/u mini foam. I bought it somewhere around 1999-2001. I used it for my first base install. I want to say a friend bought a box of Rg58 (50ft roll with ends) a couple of years earlier that said Tandy but I could be wrong.

Tandy being the parent company of Rat Shack, I just imagine anything that has the Radio Shack name on it, will also say Tandy somewhere on it...
Now if you find something New this time next year that has the Tandy name on it, that might be worth talking about!

It was Allied Radio before it became Radio Shack and sold to Tandy Corporation (1970), with Tandy markings on it, it was made after 1978, I think mini 8 came around (produced) in 83 or 84. It was actually good coax back in those days.

I used Tandy RG-8/U for years, bought it second hand back in like 2000 (I think it was 8/U, it wasn’t the super small small mini 8, was the same size as the 213 I use now, not sure where it is or I'd check the markings on it). I got mine used from a local operators yard sale he had every year until he got too old to do it. Had to use a barrel connector to connect both 20ft “jumpers” for early setups, lol, but it worked fine.
I retired the Tandy a number of years ago when I got 40ft of Universal Radio RG-213/U U.V. in great condition for a couple bucks at a hamfest. I still have the Tandy and use it for testing stuff in the yard, looks really old, but works good, was nice coax actually.

I still have some "Tandy" RG/58 I use on my scanner antenna. Antenna has always been in the attic. It was only outside for about 6 months when my dad bought it new back in the 70's and the part that was outside was only about 10' of a 75' run. I've probably trimmed that all off by now. It's solid core center so when I move stuff around it breaks.....lol. You can barely see the "Tandy" on it but its there. It's been a great performer for my scanner and since we bought this place I doubt it gets moved anymore so I may have it for another 20 years.
