fiberglass antenna advice wanted
i have a roof mounted 7 foot firestik, just want to know if i should use a spring to aid with flex so it will last longer or if the antenba springs are pointless. tip of my antenna is about 14 foot off the ground with my current setup. i have no standing wave issues at the current time

I'd leave it alone as long as the mount is doing fine. But if you do finally break it, just replace it with a 108 steel whip. Those firestiks catch a ton of wind with their broomstick like mass.

I agree unless you just want to try something new. A 7ft FireStik will only last as long as the first low obstacle even with a spring. What are you using now?

If you live where there are any short bridges or a lot of low hanging trees, you might want to reconsider that antenna at that tip height. I know from experience being that high that antennas take a beating. I'm with JJD on this one, if it lasts more than a week you are lucky. Hope you have s good mount and have it supported well. JMHO.

nothing low hanging in the typical daily driving for me, at the moment saving for a sirio performer 5000 but they arent exactly cheap. i use a wilson gumdrop mount that is pretty secure

Make sure to have a good backing plate under the mount you're using, JMO. The bigger the better. It will help disperse the weight of the antenna. The perfromer is much lighter antenna no doubt. I'm sure your mount will thank you.

i amalso debating aquiring a linear amp. nothing big, just enough to be heard a little farther out. i am thinking at least 30 watts, at most 100 watts. any suggested makers?
