A pair of Radio Shack walkie talkies wit really long antennas. Probably 1974 or 1975, I had to buy the channel 10 crystal for this area.

My first cb radio back in 1987 when i was 17 was a used motorola motrac i think i don't remember if it was 23 or 40 ch all i remember is it was white. I never got to use it because either it did not work when i got it or i burned it out doing something dumb as i did not know better back then. The first radio i actually used was a 23ch midland 13-882c borrowed from a friend with a small harrada magnet mount antenna stuck on top of the radio and powered by a 12v 5ah gates cyclon sealed lead acid battery. The first cb radio i bought new was a Realistic TRC-215 6ch walkie talkie in 1988 and then that one was replaced in 1989 by a Realistic TRC-217 40ch walkie talkie and i still have both and they still work. War Wagon.

I didn't include my first walkie talkies I got when I turned 9 in 1971. They looked very similar to those but were only one channel if I recall? But when we played army we used them and had an absolute ball. Good image...thanks for the memory. LOLFoliant wrote:Its a toy but its also a CB-Radio...

I actually had 2, got them both at the same time. I had a White Faced Viking 1Johnson 5 channel and another radio that looked a lot like the "Executive" 3 channel radio except it said "Farmhand" on it. Both worked really well but I used the Johnson more cause it had the 2 extra channels in it. If I remember right it had 3, 8, 11, 14 and one other channel that I never really knew. Never talked to anybody on it....lol. I had a handful of other crystals too but never really messed with them much. The Farmhand had 3 and 11 in it and another channel that the people on there would run me off every time I got on it. Guess they didn't like 10 year olds talking on the radio.....lol. I wish I still had those old radios but lord only knows what happened to them. Ran those for about 3 months on a 1/4 wave radio shack base antenna then got a Johnson Messenger 123a and a small power supply, I was in heaven. Wasn't long after that my dad went out and bought 2 brand new Robyn's a SX-007 and a DG-30 and one of those mobile to base boxes they sold with the Robyn's. That was a nice set-up. I was hooked at that point.

My first CB radio back in 1979 was a TRAM D201A. Talked all over the world on it with a PDL2 and 12 watts.

Yep!
It was a Metrotek Pacer II! With a HOOKER 200 amp, D-104 microphone, and a di-pole antenna (with coke bottle insulators). For an AM unit.... I got out pretty good!
Back then, it was off to Radio Shack to buy more crystals fill in the empty channels in my set..... The radio had a "spotter" on it to get it on freq.
Here is a picture to show you how it looked like!
It was 1978....and I had hair like Ted Nugent and had a thing about dressing like the "Fonz". Fonz with hair like Ted Nugent. :r&r:

My first was a Heathkit of somekind, I believe it had three(3) removable crystals, gosh that was in 1962 and my memory is not that good nowdays. I remember I had the famous 102 ss whip on the bumper, and that may have been the only option then. It was a lot of fun back then, not as crowded as it today, but I still enjoy it as much as then.

Yeah I remember my first...It was a POS Radio Shack, 5 channel push-button radio...Had channels listed as A-E, and you had to buy crystals for it...It came stock with channel 19's, but the others you had to buy...Never did get all 5, most of the time when you went up to Radio Shack, the crystals you wanted were always sold-out...But I did finally manage to get the one for channel 20 and 23...Those in my area were the hardest to get, because those were the local channels...About 6 months later I got my second POS radio, made by Pace, but at least it had 23 channels, and you didn't have to buy crystals!

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

My first was a Multi Elmac Citi-Phone Mobile CB Radio connected to a DX Ham Cat antenna on the back of my white 64 Impala SS. I picked it up used in 1971. It had a channel indicator that you had to have young eyes to see, no power or signal meter. Worked well for what it was. Good times!

Wasn't my Radio but my Dad's that he had in a '78 Chevy K10 Blazer, It was a Factory GM AC Delco AM/FM Stereo with built in CB in dash unit. I was just a little fellow and accidentally fried it for him when I keyed it up when the antenna was grounded. Took a butt whoppin' for it.
The first one I owned was a Uniden Pro520 mounted in my 1978 Toyota Corolla Liftback and moved it over to my 1990 Nissan 4X4 Hardbody Pickup. Later I picked up a Galaxy DX66V with Texas Star Mod V Plus, sold that and got a Galaxy DX99V with Rebel 250 that I still have today.

Searching the internet I found what I'm pretty sure is the first CB I owned. It looks like the one I had from Walmart. Anyone remember this from circa 1986-1989?silvereagle1 wrote:mine was a wal-mart special that came with a small mag mount antenna. the wife and I was in wal-mart in Leeds Alabama shopping and I just threw it in the buggy on an impulse buy. figured out that it was pure junk a few days later. I believe the name was road master. it wasn't long after that I went looking for a better radio and antenna. ended up with a k40 antenna and Midland radio. kept those for several years.

a 23 channel Hyrange IV base. Still have it somewhere around the house.
I got a Cobra 31 Plus for my birthday in '87, and then in '92 I bought a Cobra 29 Classic at the old Union76 truck stop in Clays Ferry. Loved that radio, and still have the box. Unfortunately, it was stolen out of my car four years later..
