Happy New Year
!st Post and I am asking questions already !

Was wondering what people think of the "Galaxy DX2547 CB Base Radio AM/Single Side Band (SSB)” ?

Is this radio worth the time and the money to modify ?

Thanks for any comments !

I think it is a very nice CB radio. The only mods I would do is the channel mod for the "Freeband" channels, (that is just a pair of toggle switches), the hardest thing about this mod is the placement of the switches. Unlocking the clarifier, (the radio does then to drift frequency, this is really only noticed on SSB), the frequency counter does have the 6th digit to indicate that it's off without a bunch of people telling you. Last is modulation, this radio really sounds good even without a power mic. I would have an alignment done after or during the mods.
I see you are a new member, could you post a intro in the "Welcome to the Forum" topic, [Please login or register to view this link] , so others can say "Hi", thanks.

Hello Scrambler82,
My wife just bought me one of these for Christmas! She bought it stock off Amazon which means it hasn't been tuned/modded any. I connected it to my homemade wire dipole earlier tonight and really wasn't that impressed "out of the box". I was able to make a contact with my Uniden 980 with the same dipole (980 currently sits on the bench next to the 2547) but no such luck with the 2547. I also had the same results connecting both radios to my Antron 99. I am going to keep playing with it and see if I can find somewhere to tune it up or possibly do some kind of performance upgrade. Our local CB place here in Indy shut down recently. I am not sure if there is any local options. If anyone here has any suggestions (site sponsors?) I am all ears.

Good luck with your radio. I have high hopes for them! They look like a beast!! I will try to remember to update you with any findings.

I've had one for over a year now. Had the mods done to it and "Les Comm" board for additional channels added. I use it on a Siro 5/8 wave antenna and have had great luck with it. I added an MFJ-299 mic and it sounds great, like the bigger HF rigs.

The only con to this radio is like Greg stated, this radio likes to drift a bit on frequency, but mainly when warming up. After that, it works like a charm. When the skip is good I've talked all over the world.
