Can’t talk or here?

Post by Demus319 »

I have a Cobra 29 NW LTD. It’s 2 months old plus my antenna are about the same. All of a sudden I can’t hear or talk to anyone. But then it will work for a few minutes. The RX/TX lite is green but when I hit my mic the light goes red and the meter does not move? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

My first thought is broken microphone wire at the connecter is where they normallybreak .If you are handy with a fine tipped soldering gun you can find a wiring diagram here on this forum.Under microphone info. [Please login or register to view this link]

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with your Cobra 29 NW LTD CB radio. There could be several possible causes for the problems you're facing. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check the antenna connection:
Make sure that the antenna is properly connected to the radio. Ensure that the antenna cable is securely attached to both the radio and the antenna mount. Check for any loose connections or damaged cables.

2. Inspect the antenna:
Examine the antenna for any signs of damage, such as bent elements or corrosion. If you notice any issues, it may be necessary to replace the antenna.

3. Test with a different antenna: If possible, try using a different antenna to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the radio or the antenna itself.

4. Check the microphone:
Ensure that the microphone is correctly connected to the radio. Check for any loose connections or damaged cables. Try using a different microphone, if available, to see if that resolves the problem.

5. Adjust the squelch control:
The squelch control helps filter out weak or unwanted signals. Try adjusting the squelch control to see if it affects the reception. If the squelch is set too high, it can block out all incoming signals.

6. Check the RF gain control:
The RF gain control adjusts the sensitivity of the radio's receiver. Make sure it is not set too low, as that can cause poor reception. Experiment with adjusting the RF gain control to see if it improves the reception.

Hope this helps.

I have a few questions before making a suggestion.

Was the radio and antenna adjusted for the best possible SWR?
What brand antenna and is it a magnet mount or permanent mount?
Have you tried another antenna or radio in your vehicle?
Gives us these answers and anything else you might think of.
