thanks again.
And to respond to the other post "don't jack with it", My swr is 1.0 and 1.0 on the internal meter on the 980 radio and most of the time it won't calibrate exactly. The external meter barely shows 1.1 and adjusting the K40 antenna does not affect the reading. If this is what is supposed to happen, then I will be happy with that. It just seems that I can't get many people to answer my calls. I receive all sorts of things in AM and SSB. Thanks for your post.

Your 980 is fine I wouldn't worry about the swr readings. Sometimes the calibration meter won't line up with the mark that's on the radio. That's normal just go to the next highest one. both of mine does the same thing. Cbradiomagazine.com has a video on the 980 and I believe if memory serves me right his calibration doesn't line up either. It's a good video. No need for a bigger alternator with the kl503. It's a good sounding amp on sideband and works well with the 980.

One note on the internal SWR meter on the 980. If you already have a low swr on an external meter, the 980's meter is going to show it even lower. That's why you're getting a 1.0 across the entire Channel range. I don't know why the 980 is like that but it is. The meter always shows lower than it really is. If your antenna had a SWR of 2.5 on an external meter it would most likely show a reading of 1.5 on your 980 if that makes any sense. That's just my experience with the two I have.

This is my reading on ch1 according to the 980. It's around 1.2 on an external meter.

This is my reading on ch40 according to the 980. It's about 1.3 on an external meter.
