texas star 1200/1600

I just purchased a texas star 1200 for 50$ bucks it needs new pills. My question is can I swap out the 2290s for 2279s and make it a sweet 16 or is there more involved then this?

PLEASE Im not being a jerk. But if you have to ask if you can just swap out 2290s for 2879s it maybe best to find a sponsor that does repairs. Why? If you knew transistors really well, then you'd never of asked the question!
AGAIN I wasnt trying to be rude! But transistors are expensive, and Id hate for anyone to burn up 8 more of them! They get expensive fast! Plus the real question is, why did they burn up in the first place. What else did they take out? What other circuits need to be rebuilt? Not just as easy as a swap.

No I don't take it as you are being a jerk. I was just wondering if it would be worth it to get the repair done or buy another amp. When I inquired about this I had looked at both schematics to the 1200 and 1600 and found them to be identical besides the pills.

Believe it or not I got my BS from Devry as an electronics technician but my career path took me else where and the longer I don't use the trade the more i forget. lol

You can have them swaped out yes...But dont expect to get the same results as a sweet 16....

I have a X-Force X80, that I had the 2290's swaped out with 2879's. Yes it has more power. But still not as much as the 200HD. But it can be done.

Now like Mr.RadioActive was saying, there may be more things than just the pill's, and resisters that may need replacing. So guess It would be a gamble as to whether or not, it would be worth it...

I suggest not doing a swap, there is a lot involved with changing over from using 2290 to 2879's... There will be resistors, capacitors and transformers that will need replacement along with a bigger relay etc......and so on.....

Have a look at EastCoeast Amps...

A 5pill from the would probably do you the best or even a 2x4.... You will be dong more watts than with a Texas Star, and also these are competition boxes.... Volt up to 20VDC

The only reason I am a fan of texas star is because I talk ssb 80% of the time I have a 667 and it has always been good to me the only other box that I have tried on ssb was a magnaforce and I had bad luck with it.

If anyone knows another good SSB amp let me know.
