Ok, I'm picking up a Cobra 148, A-99, 200w linear, a D104 hand mic, and a 35amp power supply from a local for $175. I will likely sell the linear and the mic, as I probably wont run power yet.
Now, for my A-99 I was thinking this. I have a 60'x40' metal barn in my back yard. Its wooden framed, but with metal siding and a metal roof. I have a lean-to on the side. I was thinking of sticking the A-99 to the top of an extendable pole and strapping it to one of the 6x6's on the side. The pole would get the base of the antenna above the shop, and then the antenna itself would be above the metal building. Do you think this setup would cause any problems? The whole antenna should be above the highest point of the metal shop, so I would not think it would have any problems.
Secondly, if I do decide to run power, would I just run it right to the power supply along with the radio wires? Do I need to do anything special to the wiring?
Lastly, as far as bleeding. I know the A99 is famous for bleed. I dont know what kind of coax will come with this used A99 either. The building I will have the base in is about 100' from my main house, and about 600-800' from my closet neighbor? With just a 148 and the antenna would I have issues with bleed? What about if I do decide to run power?
Thanks!
First "real" base setup, few questions.

If i had that size of a metal building, I would mount the A99 right smack in the center of the thing! That way you are above the "ground plane" and won't have any problems with any reflection and your A99 will be in the best position for gain in all directions. I would think getting it in the center would lessen any bleed over as well.
Bottom line is that would be the absolute best place for it.......my .02, have fun!
