CB Radio Talk

I took a drive to my favorite radio shop on saturday to get a rfx75 unit put on my black chrome 29. And man what a radio I have now. 120 watts coming out of it with a 8 watt dead key. tons of audio and on a station about 30 miles away Im still putting 9 pounds on him lol. Im very satisfied with this radio as a barefoot radio the sheer performance of this radio is amazing. deff going to be putting one of these on my 148 gtl!

That sounds impressive for a RFX 75. This seems to be a point of conflict. Another person on this forum said he had between 120 and 140 watts and was told you can only get 100 watts out of an RFX 175! No matter what the watts to put that many pound over the distance is impressive. Do you know how many volts you are pushing through it? Either way many people love the RFX 75 mod. Sweet unit. Oh yeah its a big brewing conflict. But this radio is doing a great job with this unit I would recommend it to anyone who is into cb's. But alot of people say its giving them 150 watts and some say they only got 80 watts lol. But I didnt let that get me down. But this radio is serviced by a 35 year radio expert who knows what he is doing and knows how to properly set up a radio. She is peaked and tweaked and clipped and chipped!! 120 watts is all Im gonna get. The limiter has been taken out and it has a swing kit and it just flat out peforms. Im running it on a 14kx pyramid ps.

That sounds great. I just purchased a RFX-75 for my Galaxy DX-959. Got on Ebay, new for $32.50. Now after reading your post, I am looking forward to getting it and installing it to see what kind of difference it makes. After i do get it installed, I will let you know how it is doing on my radio.

That is a lot of watts for two finals to produce i have to wonder how long it can last . Have you tried putting you hand on it after you've talked on it for a while ? I have one on a Galaxy DX 959 and it gets hotter the a firecracker and it only produces 70 to 80 watts . A small fan i swiped from an old computer seemed to help a bit but it still gets quite warm. Maybe it's just the difference between the two radios one likes it better than the other.

Thats really awsome. Can't wait to pick one up myself. Was it a difficult install? Or did you have the cb shop do it for you?

IMO...the RFX works best on the Cobra 29 chassis. I've put them on 959's
and haven't seen over 90w...and often less. They don't respond as well
on sideband or export radios as they do on the 29. If set up right,
they sound great and yes, they will get hot if you are dead keying
10-15w and are long winded. More heat sink would help a bit there.

Ye-Ha, My galaxy 959 is in the shop this week having the RFX-75 installed.
When I get it back this week, I will post how it turned out and just how many watts are cranking out of it. I have already built a special radio mount that I built with a built in computer fan to help keep the rfx-75 a little cooler. I should have it back by thursday or friday. Really looking forward to it.

I have seen them online with a cooling fans to help out. A buddy has got one on order, back-order that is, so we can toss it in his cobra 25 he is using as a base. For 39.95 for the part, a few hours of soldering, getting anything north of 50 watts is worth it IMO, versus building a 1 or 2 pill, considering 1 pill costs 39 bucks from RF parts.
