Anyone know why this might have been done?
It looks like D71 is wrapped to R177 then a 3.3K resistor in line to R259 witch has been removed.
This is EPT3600-14B board

i looked up the schematic and it has been modified. it is a part of your mic circuit by the way.
unsolder that 3.3k resistor from the diode and put it back in the R259 spot where it belongs. that 3.3K resistor is from the R259 spot. should be good to go after that...

Hey thanks... Any clue why it was done? Think it might be there to fix/bypass another issue? I'll try it here after a bit, guess if it stops working I will put it back.
Thanks

It was a modification from the AMC and ALC amplifier transistor going to the AMC shunt transistor.

In simple terms the circuit was modified to allow the maxiumum amount a of modulation on AM and the maxiumum PEP output on SSB without removing the AMC (automatic modulation control) or ALC (automatic level control)

Both level controls for the AMC and the ALC remained intact and were still adjustable but the range of that adjustment was increased vs removing them which is reffered to as clipping the audio.

Someone want to do another one? I'll learn to read the schematic one of these days. I can find my parts but don't understand what I am reading. Oh well here it is. C187 is tied to R205 with a 2.2M ohm resistor.

It's not a bad modification all that was done was to change some components so there would be more of an adjustment range on the AMC and ALC VR pots.

Ya know I was wondering this a bit last night. When I get done finding out all the mods and putting them back to stock. How many of them will I end up adding back.
