Honestly it's all dependent on mother nature. The conditions are constantly changing. Days with increased solar activity tend to be the best days for it. Many times the afternoon is the best time of day but that's far, far from always being true. I really like early morning if the conditions are right for DX (AKA skip).

There is no one best channel on the regular 40 for skip. That to is all dependent on conditions and the direction the skip is coming from for that day. Most develop a favorite channel to work for when the DX is out of a particular direction but that's not saying that one channel is the best.

It's funny that you ask. I have been on and off the radio for many years now. Skip seems to 'skip' in and out throughout the day. I bought a radio shack triple trunking scanner a few years ago and never heard anything on it for 11m radio. Then about 2 weeks ago i was playing around and BAM! i found some skip on channels 6 and 11. i have nothing fancy with this scanner, just the stock antenna that came with it, and have just really been excited that it is coming in now. From most of the time i have spent on the radio the best skip is sometime during the day ( one minute its here one minute its not ). Night time comes around and it all goes away and gets back to the local crazies!

Nagant has it pretty much right there. There's no real set "best" time , allthough it seems to me you hear the most in the evenings on days when conditions are active.
And as far as the most active channels on the regular 40 , I'd have to go with 16 , 17 , 24 , 26 , 28 , 31 , and 34 that's where I hear the most anyway. But like was said , what part of the country you are in plays a role in that. Happy DXing!!

Durring skip does the antenna matter.......like will a fiberglass antenna have a better reception over a metal whip or vise versa

Personally i am not a bid fan of fiberglass antennas. I know a lot of other people dog on them, but i use a 102" Stainless Steel whip. I have shot skip round the world on it no problems. but really the biggest part of shooting skip is having a very good tuned antenna, coax and radio. they all need to match. i took a 23 channel ssb crystal radio (realistic radio) took it apart, installed into a 5 gallon bucket, re-tuned it, and it put out all of 5 watts, and it was a skip stomping radio as well.
