just picked up a 1991 148. First contact dx was brazil not bad bearfoot.I love this radio. that was in my truck on a wilson 2000 trucker.

Whats up. great contact you made there. I havent made a contact like that yet.
Sounds like it was a good buy. I have talked to a guy in your area on sideband from havertown? or haverford? I could hear him but no signal strength. Maybe we can try that later. not sure what affect this weather will have on us making contact. he was AJ 20/20. A base station. looking forward to making contact with you.

Thanks guys. Jim keep in touch. i think if i had the combo on the switches rite I was on 27.555.still working with it.

The best I had with my 148 gtl was from Gaylord mn, to midway island chain held it for 15 min on 16watts dual co phassed 3 ft francis on my old mack cabover .
still have the radio and us it on and off. cant beat them for what they are(dam good radio)

It is pretty hard to top the older Grant XL/148 GTL. Its my favorite mobile radio.

Ive got a broken 1994 that wont power on any more. I've posted it on Craigslist but seems no one wants it. Maybe some day I'll learn how to fix it.
