10k jump up or down for Cobra 2000

#335126

Post by Draxx2755 »

Hi, just wondering if there is a mod for a 2000 to install a switch to jump 10kc's either up or down? My clarifier does not slide enough to get to the "A" channels and many of our locals go to them for some quiet QSL's. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

My 2000 has the 10k switch so it can be done. I would have to tear into it to see how it was done. Check cbtricks, they have info and they have the whole Secret CB set online.

Thanks Grinder74, I'll jump on over there and take a look. Although, sometimes I'm a little skeptical of the Secret CB mods. I've found quite a few that really don't work quite so well. Thanks for the reply.

just send in the cobra 200 and have the channel mod done
no flipping switches or tracking a freq
you just turn the dail if you are on 19 turn knob one click to right an your on 19 A
A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone

Hey North Texas Mudduck, I recently aquired this 2000. Paid $200 for it. It already has had the frequencies put in it the "standard way" with switches. Henceforth the reason I can't get to the "A" channels. I assume you're speaking of one of the "kits" that are out there. I really don't want to go to the trouble of putting it back to stock just to change it again. The clarifier has been unlocked already (already done before I aquired it) and it was peaked. Not sure whether it was actually tuned or not. I checked out the clarifier mod but it wasn't any mod I'm familiar with. As is, it won't slide far enough to go down or up 10 kc's. Thanks for the reply.

I don't like how my band switch is done. Make sure a competent tech does it. I have a 5 pos switch and a toggle switch. The toggle only works in certain positions and on 2-14. I'm making a chart for it, it is confusing without a chart. I have low 26 to low 28MHz. I also have the 10kc on the CB/PA toggle. Bought it setup this way.

Hi Draxx2755,

Go to pin 16 of the (PLL IC-1) cut the trace that goes to the pin and put a 5.6 K ohm resistor across the cut trace. Take a 3 position switch with a center OFF. Run a wire from the center post of the switch to Pin 16 of the PLL (MB-8719 or MB-8734). Run a wire from one of the other posts to Chassis ground (Any tuning can on the board will work) Run another wire from the remaining post on the switch to an 8 volt regulated source. You'll find one near and on the PLL.

Flip the switch in one direction and the frequency will go up or down by one channel (10 KHz) depending which way you put the switch. This will alternate approximately on every other channel. If the state of pin 16 is already low than putting it to ground won't change the frequency. Just go to the next channel and try the switch. This will pick up all 5 of the "A" channels (RC Channels). It works nicely if you have uppers and lowers and need to pick up, say 27.4650 MHz, Go to 27.4550 MHz and throw the switch and it will go up one channel.

The speaker selector switch on the radio is a good switch to use if you don't want holes drilled in the radio. I don't advocate talking out of band, but I hate it when people give out the wrong info, which can ruin the PLL or makes the Voice-Lock so sensitive to get a 10 KHz drop that the radio drifts just by temperature change.

Respectfully as always,
Respectfully as always,

Rick

Thanks Rick! We don't normally have long QSO's on the "A" channels. It's more for just getting away from some of the hash and trash. I appreciate the info and your honesty. As always you came thru.... Thanks again.

Thanks Rick, this work on the Uniden Washington (MB8719) too, I used a 4.7K resistor to bridge the cut trace. Still looking for a way to get 5kc out of the clarifier.
