peak tune or out da box?
is every radio worth getting a peak and tune? im thinking about picking up a uniden 520xl because its the right size for one of my cars. now i see some places like gi joes cb shop offers a tune on these yet others like walcotts dont even bother. is it worth the extra money or is out of the box good enough on such an inexpensive radio? thanks!!

Hi lemmychatter,
Most of the shops that offer a peak and tune is for the benefit of the export radios to put them on the CB frequencies and some CB radios that are way off frequency out of the box, mostly SSB radios. As for a Uniden 520xl the most they would do is turn up the modulation and drop the power if you want to run an amp.

This is just my opinion, but I would much rather get a radio and try it out than get it worked on before it's sent. It's not that I don't trust our sponsors to get the work done at a decent shop or do it themselves, I just prefer to know what I am working with first. After than I can get it looked at locally if I think there needs to be adjustments that I can't handle myself. Just from my experience, I have gotten one radio that sounded great out of the box, and the other few just needed a minor adjustment to a single pot.
But again, opinion, your mileage may vary.

I have all my radios tuned. Get the most out of your radio. Even my little 510xl performs better, after it was tuned.
