Gifted a nice radio

Post by jimsjinx2 »

My son gave me his Yaesu 897D all mode radio, and the auto ant. tuner. It onlt puts out 25w on AM, and I would like to run a Texas Star 400V amp with it. Yeasu has a nice 1 KW amp, but at $4 grand, that ain't happenin'. The audio is so good, I'd love to try this on lsb and am. I'm and older member that had to re-register,so my old posts are gone. By the way, I can dial down the radios output to 1 watt. Thanks, jimsjinx2

You need to be very careful.

I know most of the HF rigs have an ACC Jack or Remote Jack and usually the manual will talk about running a cable to the amp to balance things out.

I doubt there is anything like that on the Texas Star.

Just be careful you do not blow something up.

I have heard horror stories even though IT SHOULD HAVE WORKED.

I think $4,000 is too much but there are a number of reasons why the amplifier should be at least $2,000.

You don't have to spend $4000 for an amp you can an amp that's designed to be used with a radio like that for around $950 or one that's a little smaller for $650.
Using a texas star with that radio would be like wearing a pair of sneakers with a tuxedo.
