Hi,
Do I need to isolate the on/off, volume control (of a RF Limited TRB X3 echo board) from the metal radio chassis, to eliminate possibility of a short ?
Should I use a grommet?...

no grommet on the nut or switch, just make sure the wires do not touch any metal or that will short it out.
