Spacing between antennas

#362406

Post by MillSpec »

How far apart do my antennas need to be?

I have a 1/4 wave ground plane for my CB and I want to add a 4 meter radio to my setup.

How far apart do the 11m & 4m ground plane antennas need to be?

Can I mount the 4m on the same mast? Either below or on an arm off to the side?

Thanks, Joe.

I gotta ask, why 4 meter? The U.S. doesn't have an allocation there at least yet. There has been a petition filed but currently it's only allocated in Europe and Africa. Just curious.

4 meters in the states were allocated to TV Broadcasters (analog channels 2,3, and 4), when they went digital it opened those frequencies and Amateur radio was trying to scoop them up, so far no luck with the FCC.
I am interested to know what radio you are using for that band. Spacing for the antenna is like dirtyjob said, I'd go at least 9ft too. Even though the two antennas frequency wise won't interfere with each other physically they will draw their radiation patterns toward each other giving it an oblong effect.
