COBRA 29 LTD MOD RESOURCES
I found a dirty CB laying on a blanket at a yard sale. $5 the lady says. Ur mine I say.
I have seen some youtube videos and such, but where are some good resources on this site and others for a list of mods and parts.
Thanks
BTW, this will be my first attempt at modding/soldering a circuit board. So, any tips or advice for that, I'd like that as well.
Thanks, Joe.

It kinda depends on what you want to do. Are you looking for echo, more power, a receive boost or talkback? Perhaps you just want to change the color of the channel display or meter light? Let us know what you want and then someone will be able to help you proceed. How old is the radio and what is the country of manufacture? Does it work properly as it is now? We need more info on what it is and what you want it to do. If it is dirty as you said I would start with a good cleaning. Pull the covers off and check the board for corrosion. While you're in there clean all the knobs and switches with a quality contact cleaner like Deoxit 5. Pull the speaker out of its cover and soak both covers in a sink of warm soapy water. Take the knobs off the front and soak them as well. Make sure they are completely dry before reinstallation. Let us know how it turns out for ya 73s.

Cool, I have a starting point. A guy at work said he has another radio I can have. It's the same, 29 LTD. So It's looking like I have two(2) radios to play with.halfwatt959 wrote:It kinda depends on what you want to do. Are you looking for echo, more power, a receive boost or talkback? I'm going to pull them apart and clean them. What is this Deoxit? Where can I buy it?
While I have them apart, I'll shoot some before and after photos.
I was looking at Youtube videos and different radios that are for sale on the internet.
I think I'd like to Re-Do the front of the radio in Green LED.
- Nitro Knobs. I watched a youtube on this last night. Blue install on a Galaxy radio. The guy went a step further and added a dimmer knob in the back out of some spare parts.
I'm good without the dimmer.
- Green LCD channel display. I have found the piece for this, but I haven't seen anything on how to swap it out.
-Green Meter light. I have looked but still don't know what I'm doing with this. I need help with this one two.
As far as performance, I have seen some "super swing kits" on Ebay. But honestly, it looks like 3$ worth of stuff I can get from Fry's Electronics. If someone could tell me what I'm looking for and where it goes, I don't need to pay 9$ and wait for shipping.
I have also seen the video for the VR4 Modulation pot adjustment. I could do that while I'm in there.
I also would like to add a ground lug. I'm open for suggestions as to where I should locate that.
The final thing, from what I've been reading, the Delta tune adjustment isn't needed, the radio doesn't drift.
So, I'd like to use the knob for something else. ?? Idk what, I'd like to hear some suggestions on that too.
Thanks for all your help. I know a lot of this is noob stuff. But hey, I'm new. haha

There is a slick mod that you can use the delta tuns hole for it adds an Adj Tone control to the radio to adj the tonal quality of the receive audio.

Ok, I shot some photos.
Here is the 29 LTD Classic I picked up at the yard sale.

Here it is with the top and bottom cover off and the knobs/face plate removed.

As you can see the 29 LTD Classic is in good shape. Just dirty.
I found the 3mm LED for the meter. Swapping that out for a Green one should be no big deal.

I found the LCD channel display in Green. I shot some photos of the Front/Back of it. I'm not sure how to get the old one off and the new one on. But 1 step at a time.

This is the radio my friend from work gave me for free.

This radio was much cleaner. However, when I pulled the face plate, I found a broken post under 1 of the knobs.
[ external image ]
The Post for the weather channel selector is odd too, I'm not sure how I will get a Nitro Knob on that. I may have to clean and back-light the factory knob.

This radio is cool too, Has this second board for the the weather stations.

To keep it sounding clean stay away from those so called watt/swing kit improvements. Get a good power mic and the longest antenna you can run!!!!

I was thinking of going with this swing kit. I've read it's the best kit around. Clean sound.Lost Ram wrote:To keep it sounding clean stay away from those so called watt/swing kit improvements. Get a good power mic and the longest antenna you can run!!!!
