Quality offense in Homebrewing?

As this is a thread in "[Please login or register to view this link]" i thought it would be exactly right...

There are people selling really weird things on ebay. Stuff that is ugly and dangerous...
The last item i saw was a Zetagi B150 in the box of a copmputer power supply. (221941040292)
The DC-Voltage comes from the front and is connect through to the old 3-Pin AC-Connector!
Guess what happen if anybody connect an Standart AC-Plug. In worst scenario the Hot Wire is connected to the case!
I saved a pic, so you can see what i mean even if the auction is aborted or succesful.

This shocked me enough to to dig into my scrap box.
I'll now show you the counterpart of the Ugly & Dangerous Amp in a Box.

Meanwhile you may have seen it brings its own Power Supply, is interference suppressed and adds some extra connections to hook up a Radio...

This is what Hombrewing should be.

Patrick

Sadly the first pic is not the worst I have seen. I like your setup. Took a lot of time on that.

Including the repair of that Amplifier (MOSFET and a Diode) I would rate it a 3-Hour-Job.

The PS-Box was empty before. The Amplifier was some sort of a by-catch in an auction.
Im now a Janitor at a basic- and secondary school, there i have access to machinery and workbenches...
This was a funny little project to test the possibilitys at my new place of work.

Since ive got heavyer equipment it wont last a long time on my Desk, i think.
Lets call it a "feasibility study" 8)

I had a Sears Roadtalker SSB mobile come to me a couple years ago that the owner said the speaker didn't work, opened it up and it had one of the RM AD203 boards inside wrapped in bubble wrap, it was melted all over the transistor and the worse part was it was hooked directly to the power leads not to the switch so it was on all the time, surprised the original owner didn't burn his vehicle or house up. Seen a couple RB's and echo boards the same way.

LOL. I have seen radios with stinger board. They use a piece of aluminum foil inside a ziplock bag and then put that between amp and radio components. Call it shielding. Lol.

Once i get a radio with a piece of PE-HD-Foil under the Power Transisor.
Owner said he changed the Transistor and the unit works about a month, now he dont feels like repairing it a second time and has bought a new radio...
